Long Family Eye Care Happy Thanksgiving! I know I just sent our quarterly newsletter last month, but I wanted to get a few reminders and important announcements out to our patients. So, please take a moment to read through this update. Thanks! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dr. VanderZeyde's Open House! If you have been a long-time patient of Dr. Ken VanderZeyde's, I know he would appreciate it very much if you would stop by to see him between 4:00 and 6:00 on Friday, November 18. At this "surprise" open house we'll have some finger foods and drinks, so come by and have a cup of coffee and share a story from the "good ole' days" about Dr. VanderZeyde. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Our Second Referral Drawing Winner! As you may know, each time you refer a new patient to us your name goes into a drawing. At the end of the month we draw out a winner who receives a prize. Last month, it was a $25.00 Texas Roadhouse gift certificate. October's winner received a $25.00 gift certificate to Scotty's. Angie and I want to personally thank everyone who thinks enough about us to send new patients our way. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Use it or lose it!...Flex Spending Accounts At the bequest of Shelly, our patient accounts administrator, please don't wait until the end of December to use the money saved in your medical flex spending account. Did you know that you could use it for just about anything in our office? Contact glasses, glasses, sunglasses, prescription magnifiers, and more... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Katrina and Long Family Eye Care Last month, two of our team members took a week and helped in the effort to clean up after Hurricane Katrina. They each have a story to tell and here is a summary of their individual experiences in their own words. Shelly: "I was part of a team of eight from Ellettsville Christian Church who joined up with other teams from Florida and Ohio for a week to assist with clean-up efforts through Cross Roads Missions. We did debris removal in homes and yards for disabled, elderly, and single parents in Slidell, Louisiana. We then went into East New Orleans and began clean-up efforts at Faith Church -- an area hit especially hard by the storm and the broken levee of Lake Ponchatrain. The area is still without electricity, water, etc. Families are still not allowed to return to their homes and businesses are not open, the area was like a ghost town, just eerily quiet and devastated. I was overwhelmed by the amount of devastation and destruction. Many homes are still covered with mud and sewage 2 months after the hurricane and the mold is unbelievable. The people affected by the storm are desperate for help and I would like to return in the spring or as soon as I can take time off and raise the money needed for the trip." Becky: "I drove down to Gonzales, LA to help with the Humane Society of the U.S. One day was spent in New Orleans to help find lost animals in the streets and to set up feeding stations and clean water for the animals that we could not catch. The conditions of these poor dogs and cats were terrible. They were so weak, scared, and so, so hungry. The rest of the week we helped take care of the horses, pigs, and goats. We helped the veterinarians treat and clean their wounds, walked the horses, fed and watered them, and most importantly, loved them. It was a very rewarding trip which I’ll never forget." Dr. Angie and I feel so blessed to practice and live in Bloomington and to have the great staff and patients that we do. Thank you again, you are very much appreciated!
